Fire Brigade controllers gave trapped pair advice over the phone
September 22, 2025 A serious fire broke out at three storey house on the A4 Great West Road in Chiswick this Saturday (20 September). The property on Ellesmere Road, which had been converted into flats, caught fire shortly before 11am. 10 people called 999 and crews were mobilised from Acton, Hammersmith, Fulham, Chiswick, Richmond and Heston fire stations to the scene. Three people left the property before firefighters arrived and two more were rescued from the second floor by firefighters via a 9m ladder. While trapped inside they had been given vital fire survival guidance over the phone by the Fire Brigade’s Control Officers The pair were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation along with another person who had escaped earlier. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters tackled the blaze which was brought under control in less than an hour and a half. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
