Hogarth Health Club Plans To Convert Caretaker's Cottage To Day Spa

A well known local health club has applied to turn a caretaker's accommodation into a day spa/wellness centre including a flotation tank and treatment 'pod' rooms.
The Hogarth Health Club in Airedale Avenue is seeking permission for the erection of three single storey extensions to the existing Caretakers accommodation at the rear of the site with the conversion of the ground floor from accommodation to a day spa/wellness centre.
Associated works would involve an in-ground pool located under the
existing glazed canopy and a flotation tank, the wellness centre would have four separate treatment rooms, and would accommodate up to 10 guests at any time. On-site caretaker accommodation would be retained at first floor level of the existing Caretaker’s house and would be a one bedroom unit instead of two.
The private sports facility has outdoors tennis courts, a swimming pool, gym, wellness centre, on-site parking, landscaping and the caretakers accommodation.
There are rear gardens of neighbouring residents bordering the club, with Airedale Avenue to the east, Beverley Road to the south and Homefield Road to the west. The site is not
located within a Conservation Area but falls within an area of special character. Proposed hours of operation would be seven days a week between 08:00 and 21:00.
Nearly 100 neighbours were notified over the summer, and seven objections were receivedf along with a petition of 21 signatures.
Objections included loss of privacy, noise and light pollution, and that it would cause harm to the local environment and peaceful enjoyment of local residents.
The application was to be discussed at (November 7th) meeting of Hounslow Council's Planning Committee, and council planners said the principle is acceptable given that it would be an ancillary use to the existing wellness centre provision of the Health Club.
They did not believe it would harm the character or appearance of the area or cause harm to neighbour's living conditions, due to the positioning of the extensions. A plan would be put in place to ensure no undue increase in noise or disturbance to the rear of neighbouring properties.
An updated Unilateral Undertaking was required to ensure the residential accommodation would be for a caretaker employed by the owners for purposes ancillary to the use of the land as a health club.
