Self-storage company Shurgard wants to build a major new facility in Chiswick on Power Road.

An application has been submitted to build on the land at 266-270 Gunnersbury Avenue which is currently owned by Hinduja Global Solutions and occupied by a low-rise office block which would be demolished.

The storage facility would have a gross external area of over 10,000 square metres most of which is made up of demountable mezzanine floors.

The main access to the building would be by an access road off Power Road where there would be a shop front and eleven parking spaces.

The application justifies the height of the building, which would be taller than the adjacent Chiswick Place office block by pointing to the amount of planned development in the area and the approval given some years ago to an eight storey block at 250 Gunnersbury Avenue.

However, this latter development has not proceeded reportedly due to market conditions. Estate agent Savills has tried to sell the site for a client but concluded this is the wrong site and location for large scale speculative office development.
