Dukes Meadows Trust Continues its Support of Young People

Extending tie-up with Hogarth Youth Community Centre and Cavendish School

Dukes Meadows Trust trustees went to see the project they support in action

The Dukes Meadows Trust has announced that it is to continue its partnership with Hogarth Youth Community Centre and Cavendish Primary School through to the end of the year.

The project allows young people to be accompanied from Cavendish School to the youth centre to take part in fun and engaging activities at Hogarth Youth Centre.

Hogarth Youth Centre works with over 350 children a year and the centre aims to provide a safe and fun environment for young people to both socialise and develop. Its Junior Club offers a wide range of activities and developmental sessions, these include; various sports and physical activities, arts and crafts, multimedia workshops, cooking and dance.

Although its primary purpose remains the regeneration of Dukes Meadows, the Trust supplements this with community work.

Recently, two members of the Trust visited the Youth Centre to see the project in action. The session allowed the trustees to ask the young people questions and find out what the project meant to them.

Kathleen Healey MBE, Director of Dukes Meadows Trust said, “We’ve worked with Hogarth for many years. It’s a local treasure with fantastic facilities and, most importantly, dedicated youth workers who are passionate about supporting children and young people. Most attended the club when they were young and it’s great that Hogarth can build that loyalty and legacy. The night we visited the club was happily noisy with the sound of children having fun and letting off steam. A great alternative to spending time on screens.

“Dukes Meadows Trust’s aims are to improve and help maintain the park, but also to support the community living around it. Funding the youth club sessions at Hogarth is a great way to do that.”

Denny Anthony, Youth Officer and Manager of the Youth Team at Hogarth Youth Centre said, “Our project with the Dukes Meadows Trust and Cavendish has allowed young people to experience something new. Our dedicated team of youth workers have ensured that children are accompanied to and from the school safely. While they are at the centre they engage in activities such as sports, cooking and jewellery making.

“We look forward to continuing this flourishing partnership with two fantastic organisations.”

Clare Frewer, Headteacher at Cavendish Primary School added, “Our children benefit greatly from the fantastic offer from Hogarth Youth Club, funded by Dukes Meadows Trust. It is wonderful to see so many access a range of activities, including sport, and thoroughly enjoying their time there. We are very grateful to the club for offering this to our families.”

Councillor Jack Emsley, Trustee at Dukes Meadows Trust and Councillor for Chiswick Homefields said, “I was really pleased to be able to visit the Hogarth Youth Centre and see first hand the fantastic work the club does for young people, thanks in part to the generosity of groups like the Dukes Meadows Trust.

“We were able to chat to the team at the youth centre about the work they do, many of whom were themselves frequent users of the club when they were younger - an incredible team who care so much about the work they do precisely because they’ve experienced the benefits of it.”

Since 2000 the Dukes Meadows Trust has raised over £1 million to create play areas and has planted hedgerows, wildflower meadows and an orchard to increase the biodiversity of the area.
