A man arrested after a swimmer interrupted the University Boat Race appeared in court in Feltham today ( Monday, April 23rd).

Trenton Oldfield , 35, of Whitechapel, east London, was charged under the Public Order Act.

He was remanded on bail to appear at Isleworth Crown Court on May 23rd next.

The race was stopped on 7 April when the Oxford and Cambridge boats were side by side near Chiswick Eyot.

In court today Mr. Oldfield was banned from the Olympic Torch route and from making visits to Windsor before the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

He is also prevented from entering the city of Westminster on May 9 th for the State Opening of Parliament.
