The rescheduled Chiswick Pier Trust bird walk with Keith Martin will take place tomorrow Saturday May 24th, 9.30am.

Would you like to know more about identifying birds and, in particular, the river wildlife around Chiswick? Many of us walk along the river without always knowing what we are looking at. The aim of this event is to help us start thinking like a birdwatcher.

All are welcome for this very enjoyable and sociable stroll.  The walk takes around two and a half hours, as they make regular stops to listen to bird song and admire nature on the way. The walk goes via the Leg of Mutton nature reserve and once over Hammersmith bridge usually veer off to one of  the lovely river pubs for an early lunch.. If you have binoculars, please bring them.

Group size is limited to 25, so booking is essential.  You can get tickets from the Pier House or by applying in writing enclosing a cheque made out to Chiswick Pier Trust. The event is free to members of the Chiswick Pier Trust or £3 for non-members.

One person who did last year's walk recalls: "Last year, we heard a very aggressive territorial tweet off between some male wrens at Dukes Meadows – its amazing how much noise can emanate from such a small bird. We knew Spring had definitely sprung when we heard the black cap’s song and saw the distinctive grey plumage with his black feathers on top of his head (the female’s is brown). We strolled over Barnes Bridge, had a wonderful view at Dukes Meadows of terrapins sunbathing, herons flying over and couts, ducks and moorhens. Then back over Hammersmith Bridge where we found the lure of the Old Ship and a sunny outside table too great to continue. By then an avid bird twitcher in our number had counted 42 different species. With a fair day, we hope to repeat this lovely experience this year."
