Cllr Gabriella Giles and Rebecca Kendrick to present latest developments
October 6, 2025 Chiswick residents concerned about rising flood risks along the Thames are invited to attend a public talk on Tuesday 28 October at The Pier House, Corney Reach Way, W4. The event, titled Flood Resilience in Chiswick – What You Need to Know, will feature updates on strategic planning for the Kew to Chelsea stretch of the river and broader efforts to manage climate-related impacts across the Thames corridor. The talk begins at 7.00pm, with doors opening from 6.30pm. Tickets are priced at £5, with free entry for Chiswick Pier Trust members. Refreshments will be available for purchase. Guest speakers include Councillor Gabriella Giles, Chairman of the Thames Landscape Strategy (TLS), and Rebecca Kendrick, TLS Strategic Project Manager. Together, they will present the latest developments in the Joint Thames Strategies Refresh project, which offers guidance to riverside landowners from Surrey to the sea on managing flood risk and adapting to climate change.
The session will also explore how boroughs along the Thames are preparing for predicted increases in water levels, and how local communities—including Chiswick—can play a role in building long-term resilience. The Joint Thames Strategy is funded by the Regional Flood and Coastal Committee and aims to embed the Thames Estuary 2100 (TE2100) plan into local policy and infrastructure decisions. Developed by the Environment Agency, TE2100 was the UK’s first government action plan to explicitly address climate change in relation to tidal flood risk. It sets out a roadmap for protecting communities, assets, and ecosystems along the Thames through to 2100. The talk will last approximately one hour and include a Q&A session, giving attendees the opportunity to ask questions and share concerns about local flood preparedness. Events like this are organised by the Chiswick Pier Trust which works to engage people with the River Thames. It provides access to the Thames and supports major river events, as well as organising events of its own. For information on Chiswick Pier Trust membership check the Chiswick Pier Trust's web site.
