Sandy Burnett conducting two performances in St. Michael and All Angels
January 18, 2025 The Chiswick Chamber Orchestra is to perform all six of Johann Sebastian Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos in two afternoons at St Michael and All Angels Church. They will be the first performances of the orchestra that was founded in 2024 to bring together talented local musicians and fill the Bedford Park church with the sounds of the chamber music repertoire. Concertos 1, 3, and 2 will be performed on Sunday 2 February at 3:30pm and Concertos 4, 6, and 5 at the same time on Sunday 16 February. The two concerts will be part of the celebration of 150 years of Bedford Park and will raise funds for The St Michael’s Heritage Conservation Fund. The orchestra will be conducted by Sandy Burnett and led by Kathryn Parry. Sandy Burnett directed a complete performance of Bach’s sacred cantatas at the church a few years ago. He says, “This time we have one of Bach’s most uplifting cycles of instrumental music in our sights, the six Brandenburg Concertos, and I can’t wait to work with the newly established Chiswick Chamber Orchestra – a mix of professional and skilled amateur performers – on this exciting project.” Kathryn Parry adds, “I have been very fortunate to have performed all the Brandenburg Concertos many times, but never all together over two concerts and with the same players. How exciting to share this musical journey through Bach’s unique masterpieces, to discover their similarities and differences, and to enjoy his glorious celebration of the baroque concerto grosso. I can’t wait to hear the different combinations of instruments and to explore Bach’s ingenious part-writing, and I’m particularly looking forward to working with Sandy and being directed from the double bass, which will certainly bring rhythmic focus and direction to our performances!” Tickets, priced from £12 – £25, with a 25% reduction for under 25s are available for booking on the Ticket Sales page. The concerts are raising funds are sponsored by Whitman & Co and Bown Design & Build.
