Six-piece jazz band to perform every month
January 4, 2025 The Phil Brown Swingtet, a six-piece jazz band is to perform monthly at The Duck and Ball on Riverside Drive. The band plays virtually every style of jazz, traditional, mainstream and modern - from Beiderbecke to Basie. Apart from the hugely experienced Phil on trombone, his son Lester plays trumpet and flugelhorn, Mark Aston is on clarinet, alto, tenor and baritone saxes, Mike Bennett is on double bass and brothers Andrew and David Clancy are on piano / keyboard and drums respectively: it’s probably the only band playing in the UK with a father and son and two brothers. Regular guests include vocalist Diane Slater, trumpeters Chris Hodgkins and Anthony Cox, Pete Clancy (Andrew and David’s dad) on trombone and many others. Phil has been leading bands for more than half a century and his band had been resident at the Brewery Tap in Brentford for 37 years, when local development made it impossible to continue, hence the move to Chiswick. The first performance at the home of Chiswick Cricket Club (W4 2SP) takes place on Thursday 16 January and thereafter on the third Thursday of the month. Entry is free and parking is available. Sessions will be from 8 -10.30pm.
