A concert in remembrance of John Walton, a Chiswick resident for 40 years, is to be held later this month.

John passed away this time last year and it has been decided it is fitting that an evening featuring some of his favourite music be held.

The event is taking place on Saturday 23 March at St. Michael’s Church on Elmwood Road starting at 7pm and running until 10pm.

John and his wife Siew moved to Grove Park 30 years ago and he was a well-loved member of the St. Michael’s congregation.

Eight years ago, he was diagnosed with cancer and those around him say his courage in dealing with his illness was inspiring.

The concert will be on the theme of love and will feature John’s favourites including Stairway to Heaven, Every Step You Take, Dancing Queen and some from Johnny Cash and the Beatles performed by David Maclure and Gareth Haze. Shady Grove will give a performance of acoustic rock and pop music and Jess Thiru will mix pop and recital music.

John wrote many songs himself and played electric guitar and harmonica and a recording of him will feature on the night.

Siew said, “John loved nature and the Chiswick House gardens, regularly watching cricket game in the Summer at the cricket ground in Chiswick House's grounds. He loved music and wrote many songs, while playing proficiently in Stairway to Heaven, one of his favourite songs. “

The concert aims to be a fun evening with opportunities to singalong. Tickets cost £5 plus booking fee and can be purchased online.

All proceeds of the evening will go to Action Kidney Cancer, a patient led charity which supports those with the disease and their families.
