Teaming up again with Bite-Size Plays for a new series
May 26, 2026 Following the success of its production of Cause Celebre in April, St Michael’s Players return this summer with Chiswick Shorts 2, a lively new collection of ten-minute plays performed and directed by members of the company in partnership with Bite-Size Plays. The show runs from Wednesday 1 to Saturday 4 July at 7.45pm, transforming the St Michael’s Centre into a relaxed cabaret-style theatre complete with tables, chairs and a well-stocked bar. Last year’s inaugural Chiswick Shorts proved a hit, and the Players have once again teamed up with Bite-Size, the Brighton-based group known for their fast-paced short-form theatre at the Edinburgh Fringe and beyond. The collaboration has opened the door for several St Michael’s members to step into the director’s chair for the first time — a development the company describes as “hugely exciting”. The programme promises a playful mix of comedy, chaos and the delightfully unexpected: insects getting intimate, astronauts going AWOL, a frantic shopper on the edge, a hen do with a twist, and a pair of bank robbers who can’t quite get their story straight. Each piece lasts around ten minutes, making for a brisk, varied evening of theatre with something new arriving every few moments. Audiences should note that the plays include strong language and adult themes. Tickets start at £10, available now at www.stmichaelsplayers.org. With the cabaret layout and bar service, the company is encouraging audiences to arrive early, settle in with a drink and enjoy a warm summer evening of local theatre at its most inventive. St Michael's Players is one of West London's oldest and most respected amateur theatre companies. Founded more than 70 years ago, the Players have built a reputation for thoughtful, high-quality productions ranging from classic drama to contemporary comedy, often tackling challenging material with a professionalism that belies their community roots.
