A programme for saxophone accompanied by piano
June 30, 2025 The next in the series of afternoon concerts taking place at St Nicholas Church will be given by saxophonist Meg Glover accompanied by Iain Clarke on piano. It is taking place at 3pm on Sunday 20 July. Programme • Fantaisie, Op. 89 by Jean-Baptiste Singelee • Prelude, Cadence et Finale by Alfred Desenclos • Fujiko by Andy Scott • Sonata in C# by Fernande Decruck Meg Glover is originally from Manchester, where she studied saxophone at the Junior RNCM before going on to study at RWCMD with Gerard McChrystal. During her time at the Royal Welsh, Meg has won numerous awards for saxophone including the Howarth’s of London Single Reed Prize, June Emerson Launchpad Prize and Wind Plus Ensemble Prize. As well as performing in the final of the annual Concerto Competition in 2021 and the Sir Ian Stoutzker Prize final in 2022, she went on to win the Concerto Competition in 2022. Since graduating, she has made her Concerto debut with RWCMD Symphony Orchestra at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, performing Tomasis’ Saxophone Concerto. She has performed recitals at Wells Cathedral School, Bristol Cathedral, Bath Abbey and St Paul’s Church in Clifton as part of their lunchtime concert series. Meg won First Prize for her submission to Birmingham International Music Competition and has been awarded the Finzi Trust Young Musicians Fund. In March 2023, Meg made her orchestral debut with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in Zimmermanns’ ‘Nobody knows de trouble I see’. Iain Clarke is originally from the Isle of Arran in Scotland and works around London, the UK, and internationally as a collaborative and orchestral pianist. He has performed extensively across the UK in venues including Barbican Hall, Wigmore Hall, Royal Festival Hall, Snape Maltings, Usher Hall and Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. Iain is a double graduate of the Royal College of Music, holding an Artist Diploma in Collaborative Piano and a Master of Performance, studying with Danny Driver, Simon Lepper, Nigel Clayton and Kathron Sturrock. He studied Bachelor of Music at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, graduating with First Class Honours, where he studied with Jonathan Plowright and Heather Slade-Lipkin. In 2022 he won the keyboard positions on both the London Philharmonic Orchestra Foyle Future Firsts and Philharmonia Orchestra MMSF professional development schemes for orchestral performance. Tickets cost £10 on the door by cash or card with students paying £5 and you can stay afterwards for tea and cake for an extra £5.
