Hounslow and District History Society lecture Nov 27
The Excavations at Syon is the subject of Hounslow and District History Society’s next illustrated lecture at the United Reformed Church Hall, Chapel Road, Hounslow on Tuesday 27 November 2012 at 8pm. The speaker is Bob Cowie, Project Officer, Museum of London Archaeology. Mr Cowie will give an account of archaeological discoveries made during the investigations on the site of the Waldorf Astoria Hotel, Syon Park in 2007-2010.The excavations revealed the clearest evidence hitherto of the large village which grew up by the principal road westwards from London to Silchester. Part of the road was unearthed, as well as roadside burnt buildings and ditches which outlines the layout of adjacent fields. Artefacts which were discovered there will also be shown. This is a different aspect to Syon Park’s history so it will be of great local interest, encouraging further visits. Newcomers to the History Society are welcome to attend this talk November 16, 2012
