Chiswick Post Office Finally Reopens |

Relaunch took place with little warning on Wednesday afternoon
September 4, 2025 Chiswick Post Office is finally back open after being closed for nearly four month. The branch started to serve customers again at 2:30pm on Wednesday (3 September). For the last few days there had been speculation about an imminent opening with local posties telling people on their routes that it was happening this week. The branch’s web page on the Post Office site had been updated for several days indicating that it was already open for business. Post Office Ltd had declined to confirm this and didn’t release a statement until 11 minutes before the reopening. The counters are open for postal services but the area occupied by the convenience store is closed off. At this stage there is no information about the new sub postmaster other than that there has been a change from the previous management. The branch at Heathfield Terrace had been shut since early May, with no formal explanation provided until 30 May, 25 days after counters first closed when customers were told it had shut for ‘operational reasons’. Chiswick and Hammersmith MP Andy Slaughter responded to the news by saying, ‘I’m very pleased the post office has now reopened and I hope it will have a long and secure future in Chiswick. I understand there were numerous problems that Post Office Ltd needed to resolve before reopening, nevertheless it is regrettable that Chiswick lost a valuable and well used service for a such a considerable length of time. Throughout this period, I have been in frequent contact with Post Office Ltd and have been pushing to get the post office reopened as quickly as possible. I hope my efforts have helped in some way and I know Chiswick residents will be delighted to have their post office back up and running.’ Cllr Peter Thompson and Cllr Joanna Biddolph, who led a campaign for reopening, said, “We are delighted that Chiswick is finally set to have a Post Office again, a vital local service that residents and businesses depend on. For too long, our community has been without this essential service, and we know just how disruptive that has been for many people. "Alongside local residents, we have consistently pressed for its return, making the case to Post Office Ltd about the real need in Chiswick. Our petition to reopen the branch received 3,662 signatures, demonstrating just how strongly local people felt about this issue, and it helped to show the strength of community support. "The reopening of the Post Office is a win for our community. It shows what can be achieved when councillors and residents work together to stand up for local services."
Council Leader, Cllr Shantanu Rajawat said, “Many Chiswick residents rely on their local post office, and the closure left them with lots of questions and concerns about the future of the service. “Together with Andy Slaughter MP, we have been pushing for the reopening of the Post Office at the earliest opportunity. “I am therefore delighted that the Post Office at Heathfield Terrace will be reopening, which represents a win for the whole community.” Post Office Ltd launched a four-week statutory consultation, but gave no timeline for reopening or clarity on the future of the service. A Post Office spokesperson said, “We are delighted to announce that Chiswick Post Office has re-opened this afternoon (3/9) under new management. We know how important Chiswick Post Office is to the community and we sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused by the unplanned closure of the branch for operational reasons. The branch is open Monday to Friday: 9am - 5.30pm and Saturday: 9am – 2.30pm. All the same Post Office services as before are available.”
