A charity rugby match with a difference will be held on Remembrance Sunday in Chiswick as a French wine grower seeks to extend friendship between France and the UK at a time of Remembrance of the outbreak of WW1

The match between "Gigondas Wine Growers v/s "English friends of Gigondas" will take place at King's House Sports Ground - Riverside Drive, Chiswick W4 2SH.grounds, with kick off at 14.30.

Everyone is welcome to attend and donate money which will be given to the NSPCC. A French international rugby player is expected to attend.

A wine auction will also be held at 7.00 pm on Sunday at the Stoke and Moncreiff, a restaurant in Twickenham,  owned by Simon Shaw, a former England international rugby player.

Louis Barruol, who is President of Gigondas Winemakers Union in the south of
France) and a rugby player himself, has organised the match with the help of local friends in Chiswick and Sheen. He is married to Cherry, an Englishwoman.

Louis said that thirty three members of his family had been killed in WW1 and he wanted to create an event that would mark the friendship between the two countries.

"For me 1914-2014 remembrance day means a lot and I am very keen on celebrating the special friendship that exists between our two countries. I though to do it this way, with my friends who are winemakers from the Gigondas winemakers union,  and to play against our English friends and give the money to a charity that looks after children, was the right way to do it."
