A new independent restaurant is set to open this October on Chiswick High Road.

The Silver Birch is moving into the site formerly occupied by cafe chain Brew at 142 Chiswick High Road.

The new establishment is the first venture for Tim Price, a long-time resident of south-west London, who previously worked as a political advisor but had always wanted to run a restaurant and trained at Leith’s. He says the focus will be on providing an independent neighbourhood restaurant, focusing on modern English food, with sustainable produce and locally-sourced ingredients.

The head chef will be Kimberley Hernandez who has 15 years’ experience much of which was in Michelin starred restaurants. . Following a stint as chef de partie at 2 *Michelin restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal, Kimberley moved to work for the St. John group as head pastry chef from 2012-2013. More recently she worked as senior sous chef at Mathias Dahlgren’s 2 *Michelin restaurant, Matsalen, and 1* Matbaren in Stockholm, Sweden; before moving back to the UK to take the position as head chef of XU Teahouse and Restaurant in 2018-2019; and head chef of Andrew Wong’s widely anticipated second venture, Kym’s in the city.

Edward Allsopp (previously general manager at Wild by Tart) will be the restaurant manager.

The design has been created in partnership with B3 Designers, with nods to the leafy High Road featuring a warm, pared back colour palette and natural fabrics.

The bar is clad in hand glazed tiles and framed by a bar gantry, with polished plaster walls. Lighting by Foundry is unique to The Silver Birch - an enamel disc like light, whilst illustrator and friend, Jesse Brown (@jessebevanbrown), is creating one-off artwork to adorn the walls.

There is a chef’s table, made by a small supplier in Wiltshire, that has views into the kitchen. Bespoke curved banquettes in this section of the restaurant have been designed with the aim of ensuring the space lends itself well to private dining. There is also an all year-round terrace at the front and a lower ground floor.

The idea for the name of the restaurant came from his favourite tree in his grandmother's garden.
