Grove
Park PTA 5-a-side Competition
The event was organised by the Grove Park Primary School PTA as a fund-raiser. Nearly 300 budding soccer stars took part, cheered on by a large crowd of committed parents. The sun shone as the action unfolded on four pitches at Chiswick Community School.
In the afternoon session the aptly-named Mrs Maria’s Marvels from St. Mary’s School were unbeaten in the Under-8 competition, winning the Final against Falcons’ Flyers 5-0. The Under-10 competition was packed with excitement, with extra time and penalties required to separate the teams at both quarter and semi-final stage. Belmont School showed impressive resilience, winning two successive shoot-outs before losing in the semi-finals to John Betts. In a nail-biting final, Chiswick Wanderers edged past John Betts with a well-placed shot from the edge of the area by 9-year old Brendan Matthew. April 30, 2004
