Fire gutted the ground floor of King Street restaurant Green Chilli this weekend.

Four fire engines and around 20 firefighters were called to the Indian restaurant in the early hours of Saturday morning to find that the fire had ripped through the ground floor and there was smoke throughout the rest of the building which is made up of flats.

It took fire crews from Fulham, Hammersmith and Chiswick fire stations a little over an hour to get the blaze under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Green Chilli had a series of arrears payments with the landlord and with suppliers and was anticipated to shut down due to the change in the high street trading environment an industry source told HammersmithToday.co.uk.

Unable to differentiate itself in an area that has more than 20 Indian restaurants, Green Chilli is not the first casualty. Agni owned by a celebrity chef closed doors a couple of years ago.
