Hounslow Council remains committed to delivering its pledges to residents despite the announcement of Government cuts.

Last Thursday the Government announced details of £450 million of cuts being made to local government this year. Hounslow’s share of this target is more than £2 million. This will be delivered through a cut in grant the council receives, mainly from children’s services.

Councillor Jagdish Sharma, leader of the council, said:

"I am disappointed that the Government have decided to cut funding to Hounslow’s children by £2 million. However, we remain committed to delivering the programme that we were elected on.

"This includes the commitment to give Hounslow’s parents and children a better chance and a tax cut for all residents.

"We will deal with this cut in funding in a professional manner, but we are not complacent. We will continue to protect and enhance our core services despite decisions by the Government."

Details of Hounslow’s share of the remainder of the £1.16bn cuts (another £710m) the Government are proposing is still awaited.
