Staff versus Hounslow Mayor's team battle it out for charity
Cricket fans are invited to watch the Mayor of Hounslow’s first XI battle it out with a council staff side in the borough’s annual charity match. The showdown is due to start at Turnham Green and Polytechnic Cricket Club, in Dukes Meadow, Chiswick, at 4pm on Thursday 10 September. The staff team is fielding its big guns this year in a bid to put the kibosh on the Mayor’s team’s designs on making it four wins on the trot. It is free for all to watch the drama unfold on the field and all the proceeds from a raffle drawn later in the day will go to Hounslow Mayor Nisar Malik’s charities: Hounslow Contact the Elderly, a charity that hosts tea parties for older people to make sure they do not become isolated and the Hounslow Toy Library, which provides a lending service to families with disabled youngsters. Raffle prizes include free one-day leisure centre passes, a £15 M&S voucher, a box of Thornton’s chocolates, a Jennifer Lopez gift set and a Fuller’s gift set. Councillor Malik said: “I’m really looking forward to Thursday’s match. It’s a friendly game but I suspect both sides will be very competitive. I hope lots of people come together, watch the match and enjoy a family-friendly evening. “I will also be grateful for all raffle tickets sold as it’s for two exceptionally good local causes which bring so much pleasure to some of our more vulnerable residents.” September 9, 2015 |
