Locals in the Shepherd's Bush area have been warned to keep a look-out for a large snake which has escaped from its enclosure in the Goldhawk Road area.

The pet California kingsnake, which is a non venomous breed, disappeared last Monday.

Hammersmith & Fulham Council have issued letters to residents in the block of flats at Drake Court warning them to be on the alert.

The breed of snake, from north America is one of the most popular snakes kept in captivity.

The Council said: "We are aware that this is an unacceptable situation, however, the matter is being dealt with as best we can under the circumstances".
