The Upper Room Winter Lecture Series comes to an end on Wednesday April 29 with a talk by a prize winning historian about Elizabethan England. The talk, titled God's Traitors: Terror and Faith in Elizabethan England is by Jessie Childs. Jessie gained a first in history at Oxford in 1999 and her first book, Henry VIII’s Last Victim, the life and times of Henry Howard was critically acclaimed and won the Elizabeth Longford Prize for Historical Biography in 2007. God’s Traitors is her second book, and has also been widely praised. She was recently described by Charles Spencer in the Sunday Times Magazine as “the best historian we have”. January 21, 2015 |
