Home furnishing shop set to open on High Road in the summer
February 9, 2025 The slow shift of Chiswick High Road away from hospitality businesses looks set to continue with another former restaurant being converted to retail use. The White Company has submitted an application for changes to the shopfront at number 270 which only last month was home to Rock and Rose. The address has been occupied by restaurants for decades including Giraffe and Bills before Rock and Rose. The application states that works will commence in April with a view to completion in June. The White Company is a British lifestyle brand founded in 1994 by Chrissie Rucker, beginning as a small mail-order business offering luxurious white bed linens. Frustrated by the lack of affordable yet premium white homeware, she envisioned a brand that combined simplicity, luxury, and accessibility. Although it has a product line named the "Chiswick Collection," which includes items such as the Chiswick Stretch Flare Jeans and bedspread and cushion set made woven in Portugal in the French matelassé style, the company has no known previous connection with W4. An agent involved in commercial lettings said, “People are inevitably disappointed with the departure of Rock and Rose and a thriving independent restaurant scene is the mark of a strong town centre but there are a lot worse potential replacements than The White Company. It feels right for the location.”
