Wine Rack may close due to holding company's financial situation
May 3, 2025 A popular wine shop on Bedford Corner looks set to close due to financial problems at the company which owns it. Wine Rack has been operating at the location since before the turn of the millennium as part of a small chain of off-licences owned by the Bestway Retail Ltd. This January, the company entered a Company Voluntary Arrangement which means that management is handed over to administrators. The Bestway group acquired Wine Rack in 2018 when a previous owner also went into administration. As a result, the freeholder of the property in which the Chiswick branch is based sought to get a new tenant and appointed local independent estate agent Whitman Commercial to find one. The property unit a ground floor shop unit, providing 733 sf of ground for sales, together with a rear storage area comprising 467 sf. The unit has been shown as being ‘under offer’ for several weeks and Jeremy Day of Whitman has confirmed that a new occupier has been secured with details to be announced shortly. Staff at Wine Rack have told customers that they were aware the unit was being advertised but had not been given any further information about the future of the store. It is understood that the Chiswick branch operated on a franchise model and was independently managed but used the Bestway supply chain and marketing resources. Wine Rack did not respond to a request for comment.
