Chiswick High Road was closed on Saturday afternoon following a serious accident. Three ambulances attended the scene and police cars blocked off the road between Acton Lane and Heathfield Terrace to allow a forensic team to examine the scene.

At this stage there has been no official confirmation about the nature of the accident although some eye-witnesses have said they believed there was a fatality.

The High Road was already partially closed near the scene of the accident due to road works to provide access to the sewer system near the junction with Heathfield Terrace. These works seem to be continuing despite earlier suggestions that they would be completed on Friday.

A temporary diversion has been established via Belmont Road, Dolman Road and Fishers Lane. To ease traffic flow the section of Belmont Road between Chiswick High Road and Dolman Road is one-way northbound.

The two lane approach for westbound traffic has been reduced to one lane past the works area. The traffic signals at the junction remain operational which retains the pedestrian crossing facilities apart from the one to the east of the junction.

There were further traffic problems earlier in the day following an accident at Sutton Court Road. A vehicle hit a set of traffic lights at the junction with the A4 and Sutton Court Road was closed at this junction for much of Saturday morning as well as two lanes on the eastbound A4 leading to substantial traffic tailbacks. The junction has since reopened.
