A teenager has died on railway tracks in Chiswick over the Bank Holiday weekend.

The 19-year-old man was found dead on the line near the footbridge by Strand on the Green School in the early hours of Saturday morning (20 April) between Chiswick and Kew Bridge Stations. He was a former student of Chiswick School, and is believed to come from the Barnes area.

British Transport Police said, “‘Officers were called to Kew Bridge station at 00.37am on Saturday morning (20/04) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended but sadly a 19-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. His family have been informed.

"The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner."

Residents in the Brooks Road area reported intense emergency service activity at the time. One local told Chiswickw4.com that there had been about eight police cars, four ambulances, a flat-bed truck and other units at the scene. One of his neighbours had reported a spark coming from the tracks just before the person was found dead at the scene, he said.

While police did not reveal the identity of the dead teenager, he is thought to live in the Barnes area and was attending third level college. He is a former student of Chiswick School. Classmates of the teenager met during the week and visited the school to comfort each other and to talk to former teachers.

It is believed that he had attended a party and left to try to catch a train home. When he was unable to get a train at Kew Bridge, it is thought he may have tried to walk home by the railway line and may have become disorientated, resulting in the incident on the tracks.
