Barclays Bank is planning to close its branch on Chiswick High Road on the 18 August this year.

The branch was included on the latest round of closures announced by the bank on 21 May despite the company admitting that counter transactions at the branch had risen over the last two years.

The company’s report on the closure makes the claim that there were only 103 customers that used the branch exclusively for their banking but this excludes those that also bank online or visit other branches.

It is estimated that the branch had 6,000 ‘regular’ personal banking customers who made an in person transaction at least three times in a year and 1,192 ‘heavy’ users who came in on average once a month.

There were 573 regular business and corporate customers and 207 ‘heavy’ such accounts.

The bank is suggesting that over-the-counter transactions can now be done at its King Street branch in Hammersmith and that the free ATMs at Metro Bank and Nationwide on Chiswick High Road can be used when its machine is removed.

This is the second bank in the last few months on Chiswick High Road to announce that it is to close. Santander revealed in March that it will shut its branch on 15 July.

Barclays also announced in March that it was planning to close it branch in Brentford and its Acton branch will be shutting in June.
