Mary Macleod, Member of Parliament for Brentford and Isleworth, is joining the campaign to prevent the closure of Chiswick Day Centre.

Mary said “The Chiswick Day Centre is the only centre of its kind in my constituency. It offers vital care for the elderly and frail, often preventing the need for hospitalisation thereby saving greater costs and trauma. The expected increase in illnesses, such as dementia over the foreseeable future, as well as an aging population will increase the demand for such services.

"I have received many positive stories from constituents about the comfort this centre has brought to the lives of patients and their relatives. There is another facility in Heston, but why was it Chiswick and not Heston that has been planned for closure? The Heston day centre is not easily accessible for the mainstream service users of Chiswick, who do not have their own means of transport. Chiswick Day Centre has recently been refurbished and it seems such a waste to let it go when it is enjoyed by so many. I would like community groups to be given the opportunity to put forward their ideas for keeping the Day Centre open in new and innovative ways.

"I have now written twice to the Leader of the Council to ask him to reconsider this proposal and I hope he will see the effects this closure will have on our community. Hounslow Council is consulting on this proposal until the 30th April 2011, so it is crucial that we come together to support this centre before it is too late.”
