There has been a spate of thefts recently in the Bedford Park area in which thieves are breaking into BMWs to remove the steering wheels and airbags.

Three incidents have been reported through the OWL Messaging system.

The first took place on The Avenue between midnight on Friday 4 September and 1pm on Saturday 5 September. Later that night between 4.10am and 4.20am there was another incident on Blandford Road and the following night the same type of theft occurred on Woodstock Road between 11pm and 6am on Sunday 6 September.

There have been reports that some high specification BMW steering wheels can sell online for as much as £1,500.

The police are providing vehicle crime prevention advice online.
