A local policeman has been cleared of rape after a coffee date in Chiswick ended in allegations of sexual assault.

31 year old trainee detective Shahzad Malik was charged after he met a woman via a website called SingleMuslim.com.

The court heard how the pair had arranged to meet for a coffee in Chiswick but instead went to a disused police section house where "sexual acts took place".

The woman made allegations of rape to the Police two days after the meeting in January.

Malik was charged but following further investigation the allegations were reviewed by lawyers and dropped.

His defence said it was "unfortunate" that it had taken "this amount of time" before Malik, who is based at Hounslow Police Station, was cleared.
