The Hounslow Borough Licensing Panel has finally announced its decision to give permission for the monthly Food Street Market to continue.

Having delayed the ruling following a lengthy meeting last Wednesday (17 January), the three councillors on the committee, Vikram Grewal, Rashid Bhatti and Amy Croft, decided to extend the licence for six months but not for the full area applied for after hearing from both supporters and opponents of the market.

Only 44 pitches will be allowed with the market stretching from Linden Gardens only as far as the junction with Devonshire Road, rather than to Brackley Road with 62 pitches.

Unfortunately, according to Richard Johnson the organiser of the market, the timing of the decision means it won't be possible to hold a market this Sunday (28 January) so the first time an expanded event will be held will be Sunday 25 February.

The application had received support from over 90 people whereas around 20 had objected on the grounds of unfair competition, litter and loss of parking. The William Hogarth Trust was concerned about potential damage to the statue of Hogarth but the limitations placed on the event will mean there will be no stalls immediately next to it.

The market will be subject to a review after six months but it is understood that this will be undertaken by a council officer and only be considered by the Panel if objections on new grounds are received.
