Work has begun on a new development on the site of Acton Lane's former timber yard.

When completed, the site will house a four storey building comprising of two office units on the ground floor with four one bedroom and three two bedroom flats on the floors above.

Earlier plans for a five storey building comprising were withdrawn by the developers in January 2007.

These latest plans, which can be seen in full here, were approved by Chiswick Area Planning Committee at the end of 2008.

In December 2007 a fire in the timber yard lead to the evacuation of nearby homes and the closure of both Chiswick High Road and Acton Lane.

The blaze completely destroyed the single storey workshop and took four fire engines and around 20 firefighters almost three hours to extinguish.
