As part of the Turnham Green Traffic & Transport Scheme, resurfacing of the carriageway around Chiswick Town Hall will take place over three consecutive nights, weather permitting, commencing Tuesday 27 April.

Work will start at 8pm each evening and run until approximately 4am. The work will require a complete closure of Heathfield Terrace, Sutton Court Road and Town Hall Avenue to all through traffic from 8pm each evening.

Traffic will be diverted via Chiswick High Road, Sutton Lane North, Heathfield Gardens, Barrowgate Road, Sutton Court Road (south of Alwyn Avenue), Wavendon Avenue and Dukes Avenue.

Pedestrians will be able to walk thorough the works area (with minor divisions required to avoid work in progress) and cyclists who do not want to follow the traffic diversions will be able to wheel their bikes on the footways.

Road closure points will be located as follows:
Heathfield Terrace / Chiswick High Road junction – local residents (Horticultural Road, Devonhurst Place etc) will be able to drive through after speaking with a marshal

Town Hall Avenue / Chiswick High Road junction

Heathfield Terrace / Heathfield Gardens junction

Sutton Court Road / Alwyn Avenue junction – local residents (Watchfield Court and access way behind 16 Heathfield Terrace) will be able to drive through after speaking with a marshal

On-street parking will be prohibited in the vicinity of the works as indicated by cones and temporary parking prohibition signs. This includes the slip road to the south of Heathfield Terrace (east of the town hall) where the resurfacing equipment will be parked during the day.

Bus route diversions while the road closures are in place will be:
E3 and 272 northbound: From Grove Park area, via Sutton Court Road, right into Wavendon Avenue, left into Dukes Avenue then left into Chiswick High Road (272) or right into Chiswick High Road (E3) to existing routes

E3 and 272 southbound: From Chiswick High Road, straight to Chiswick Roundabout, then left onto A4, left into Sutton Lane North (at Porsche Garage), right into Barrowgate Road and right into Sutton Court Road to existing routes

27 westbound: From Chiswick High Road, straight to Gunnersbury Station (temporary terminus)

27 eastbound: From Gunnersbury Station (temporary terminus) via Chiswick High Road westbound, left into Oxford Road North, left into Wellesley Avenue then left into Sutton Lane North to existing route

440 westbound: From Chiswick High Road, straight to Power Road (not via Wellesley Road)

440 eastbound: From Power Road via existing route

A range of options, including partial daytime road closures and the use of temporary signals and stop/go boards, was considered, but due to the narrow width of the carriageways and the volumes of daytime traffic, none of these were considered suitable.

The contractor will carry out the noisiest works (adjusting the ironwork and removing the existing road surface) as early as possible after 8pm each evening but some disruption in the evening is to be expected, and we apologise for any annoyance this may cause.
