Repairs to a burst water main at South Parade have resulted in traffic chaos as cars and buses are diverted and the Acton Green terminus point for the 94 bus has had to be relocated along Acton Lane. The disruption has been exacerbated by an apparent lack of notice from the authorities and contradictory messages about the work.

TfL Bus Alerts say that routes 94 and 440 are subject to diversion following the closure of Acton Lane at South Parade due to a burst water main. However the specifics of the route diversion have not been clarified. Traffic delays have been reported around Chiswick, particularly in Fisher's Lane area, as drivers seek to find alternative routes.

Thames Water earlier told us it would be fixed by Friday (3 July) . A statement said: “We’re sorry to anyone affected by the leaking pipe and our roadworks. We’re planning to fix it tonight (Thursday) and if everything goes to plan we should have the road back to normal tomorrow.”

Although the burst water pipe has been leaking since late last week, motorists were able to travel in both directions due to temporary traffic light control, but were confronted with the sudden Road Closed and diversion signs yesterday ( 1st July) evening. Traffic heading along South Parade (westbound) is being diverted into the Bus terminus ( in front of Le Vacherin) but traffic heading east is now diverted down Acton Lane. Follow the discussion on the chiswickw4 forum .

Motorists are expressing confusion and one said that there was 'mayhem' at rush hour with some motorists ignoring the Road Closed and No Entry signs and going against the flow of traffic.

@TflBusAlerts have told one resident that it is "Bus stop closures and buses are not on diversion" but locals have said this is not correct.

Heavy traffic in the Fisher's Lane area

The affected area is a constantly busy stretch of road that leads to a mini roundabout and pedestrian crossing outside the Duke of Sussex pub at the junction with Acton Lane. There was a knock-on effect as drivers sought alternative routes through Chiswick.
