The residents of Burlington Lane, between Grantham and Corney Roads, in Chiswick, have joined forces to petition Hounslow Council to include them in the surrounding Chiswick Mall Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ). The residents have been asking for parking restrictions for decades, but Transport for London – who manage this section of Burlington Lane (A316) - refuse to allow new council-controlled parking schemes on their roads.

Local resident, Sarah Maddock, with the help of Councillor John Todd, has submitted the petition, and says, ‘We’ve had a really positive response from neighbours. Everyone is concerned about the impact on parking of nearby developments, such as the Premier Inn and Chiswick Gate, as well as increasing commercial activity at Chiswick House.

Elderly neighbours and residents with young families are particularly affected. Residents are frequently unable to park anywhere near their homes and delivery vehicles are forced to double-park, creating road safety hazards. Non-residents will often park for weeks on end and broken down vehicles are left unattended for months. We have even had people sleeping overnight in their cars!’

Tony Arbour, Deputy Chairman of the London Assembly, has also contacted TfL on the residents’ behalf, pressing them to change their policy.

Sarah Maddock says, ‘This is the best chance we’ve had in years to get TfLto listen to us. Talks are underway to amend to the existing CPZ around Chiswick House and it makes perfect sense for this section of Burlington Lane to be included. The current situation is illogical and unfair and, we would argue, dangerous too. We have support at local Council and London Assembly levels, and I feel confident TfL will finally listen to the residents and make this long-overdue change to their policy.’
