Concern That Chiswick CPZ Changes May Be Too Late |

Parking hours for zones close to Brentford stadium being reviewed Hounslow Council are holding consultations about operating hours for two Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) in Chiswick close to the new Brentford Stadium. Concerns have been raised by residents and local councillors that people attending matches at the stadium will add to parking difficulties in the Chiswick West and Stile Hall CPZs. It has also been pointed out that the new developments around the stadium will not be provided with parking spaces leading to further pressure on existing bays in these zones. Local councillors say they have been pushing for these reviews for 18 months. Sam Hearn, Conservative Councillors’ Group Spokesperson on Transport Matters) commented, "These reviews of the CPZs closest to the new stadium are long overdue but nevertheless very welcome. It is important that as many residents as possible respond to the on line surveys by the 24 January closing date. There can be little doubt that unless the Council modifies the current parking regimes residents will experience serious problems as soon as the new stadium opens." There are also worries that the timescale is too short for new arrangements to be in place in time for the first matches due to be played at the stadium in the Summer of 2020. The consultation results will need to be assessed and the process of implementing schemes such as these can be lengthy. Residents and businesses are being asked how effective they think the current arrangements for a CPZ are and about the operational times of the current zones. Chiswick West runs from Monday-Friday, 9am – 6pm and was introduced due to the opening of Chiswick Business Park. The current operational times of the Stile Hall CPZ are Monday-Friday, 10am-12noon. At present, event day parking controls operate around the old stadium in Brentford on the Braemar Road site (“Griffin Park”) which operates between Mon-Fri, 10am-Noon and 6pm-8pm and event day Saturdays between 2.30-3.30pm. The purpose of the weekday operational times (10am-Noon) are intended prevent all-day non-residential parking whilst the evening operational times (6-8pm) have the intended aim of ensuring residents within the CPZ have priority parking over residents of recent residential developments in the vicinity. The evening operational times also aim to negate the impact of supporter parking during evening fixtures at the current stadium. The Saturday event day controls are also intended to negate the effect of supporter parking during home fixtures. The council are not necessarily proposing identical arrangements for the Chiswick zones but are presenting them as an example of how the revised timings might operate. It is suggested that permanent weekend controls rather than just for event days may be the best solution because of overspill parking from new developments. The Chiswick West CPZ Review and Stile Hall CPZ Review online surveys must be completed by no later than 24 January 2020.
