A major new charity initiative is due to be launched at Chiswick Park on Sunday 19th October 2003. The event, Yellow Umbrella Day, will involve a pace’athon (sponsored walk or run) around a designated 5km or 10km route through Chiswick and along the river Thames.

Yellow Umbrella Day will become an annual initiative and, with the help of local companies such as Teletext and One.Tel, aims to raise in excess of £30,000 for a range of different charities during its first year – an amount that it is hoped will increase in subsequent years. This year at the inaugural event, the selected charities are Cancer Research and the Family Holiday Association.

The event will be open to all and has been designed to be inclusive for the whole community with course options to suit a wide range of ages and abilities. As an additional incentive, the individual who raises the most sponsorship money will holiday prizes.

The pace’athon (sponsored walk or run) will start from Chiswick Park lake at 11am with staggered start times depending on the course selected. Entertainment will be on hand at the Chiswick Park event square throughout the day, along with a range of refreshments for those happy to just sit and watch.

For further information on how to become involved please contact the Yellow Umbrella Hotline, on 020 7501 3286.
