A new restaurant opening is planned in Chiswick next month with the arrival of PiANTA on Turnham Green Terrace.

It is the latest venture by Stefano Fraquelli who is a member of the Italian family that was one of the first to bring the cuisine of that country to restaurant diners in the UK.

In 1955 his father founded Spaghetti House and Stefano has been in the restaurant business all his life with his sons following him into the vocation. Stefano was responsible for developing the original concept into the Getti chain of restaurants.

PiANTA is taking over the premises of the short-lived Piazza Taormina at 6 Turnham Green Terrace. While plants will provide most of the ingredients Stefano wants to avoid PiANTA being categorised as a vegetarian restaurant.

Stefano says, “PiANTA, Italian for plant, will be a restaurant/bar which specialises in plant based Italian recipes and cocktails. The underlying principle and something which is becoming increasingly apparent, is that while we evidently should eat less meat, this shouldn’t mean we should need to eat more & more meat substitutes.

“Southern Italian cuisine boasts many authentic plant-based recipes which are as yet unknown and would satisfy any pallet, regardless.

“Plant based eating is clearly growing in popularity at a fast pace. PiANTA will provide such food in a vibrant atmosphere where the mood is fun and up tempo, where guests can enjoy a lunch or evening out which is quirky, on point and naturally of the very best quality. We are fundamentally determined to surprise meat eaters! “

His sons, the Fraquelli Brothers, will also be opening their second restaurant, BRASSERIA, in Notting Hill next month.
