Juniors from Local club Tideway Scullers School (TSS) triumphed at the National Schools Regatta held in Nottingham with its best results ever.

This regatta is the most prestigious of the season for the under 18s, and the competition is the best in the country. The TSS crews came home with a haul of two gold and two silver medals.

Across the squads, nearly all made the finals, with the girls’ squad particularly strong at all age groups.

The youngest competitors, Sophie Behan and Isobel Cole raced to a very close 4th place in the WJ14 (year9) 2x, whilst Xanni Von Guionneau (winner of gold last year in the double scull) won the first girls’ medal with a silver in the WJ15 (year 10) single scull.

The WJ16 girls (year 11 and in the middle of GCSE exams), Xanni Von Guionneau, Mimi Carlton, Isobel Flanagan and Eleanor Metcalf also won silver in the WJ16 coxless quad event after a very hard fought final. (This quad won a bronze last year when they were 15). Completing the medal tally for the girls, Sarah Lonergan and Georgie Miansarow took gold in the Championship coxless pair.

Not to be outdone, Jason Osbourne brought home the gold for the boys in the J16 single scull.
The Tideway Scullers School Junior Squad has been going from strength to strength over the past few years, encouraged by the success of club member and GB Olympic single sculler Alan Campbell and the results of the Club’s Senior crews.

As well as contributing to this year’s best ever results at National Schools, TSS now has several young athletes who are, or who will be involved in GB trials over the next couple of years. There are many excellent younger scullers waiting in the wings, but to continue the Juniors’ impressive run of success, the search is now on for sponsors and benefactors who can support our young athletes with new boats and equipment, providing the best tools for the job.

Please contact Junior Coordinator Judith Behan at juniors@tidewayscullers.com if you would like to know more about how you can support these most successful and committed young people.
