Monthly numbers suggest market remains at record levels

There were 64 sales reported to the Land Registry for Chiswick in April at an average of £683,848.
This suggests prices have remained at the record levels seend in the first quarter of the year. The average property in Chiswick cost more than £680,000 in the first three months of 2011. The previous highest quarterly average was in the third quarter of last year.
Eight properties sold for over £1 million during the month including one that went for over £2 million on Woodstock Road.
The April data from Land Registry's flagship House Price Index shows an annual price decrease of 1.3 per cent which takes the average property value in England and Wales to £163,083. The monthly change from March to April is an increase of 0.8 per cent. The region with the highest annual price change was London with an increase of 5 per cent. London also experienced the greatest monthly rise with a movement of 3 per cent.
The most up-to-date figures available show that during February 2011, the number of completed house sales in England and Wales decreased by 10 per cent to 38,336 from 42,515 in February 2010. The number of properties sold in England and Wales for over £1 million increased by 14 per cent between February 2010 and February 2011, from 399 to 454.
