Man charged with causing death by dangerous driving
Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal traffic collision in Perivale in which an off-duty police officer was killed. At around 9.30pm on Wednesday 22 April a motorcycle was in collision with a silver VW Passat at Teignmouth Gardens, near the junction with Horsenden Lane South, in Perivale. Officers, the ambulance service and the air ambulance all attended but the 36 year old officer was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been named as PC Dent, a motorcycle officer based with the Traffic Operational Command Unit (OCU) at Alperton. He had finished work and was making his way home on his own motorcycle when the collision occurred.Chief Superintendent David Snelling, Traffic OCU Commander, said: "All our deepest sympathies are with Chris's family, friends and colleagues at this distressing time. Chris was a very conscientious, hard working officer, who always had a smile on his face. He was very popular, and was in his dream role as a Traffic Officer. He loved this important part of police work." The officer had been with the MPS Traffic Police for approximately 5 years, having previously served with Thames Valley Police, and formerly in the Army in the Royal Artillery. PC Dent was married, with two young children from a previous marriage. The Yamaha TDM900 was travelling west in Teignmouth Gardens when it was in collision with the car, which was travelling east. The driver of the car made off from the scene on foot prior to police arrival. The car contained two women passengers who remained at the scene. They were spoken to and subsequently arrested on suspicion of obstructing police, and later bailed to return to a west London police station in mid-June, pending further inquiries. Following enquiries, officers attended an address in Barnet borough and three men were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. Liron Shnaider aged 26 of Stanley House, Finchley Road, NW11, has appeared in court charged with Causing Death by Dangerous Driving and failing to stop.
