The Total petrol station is set to become the latest casualty on the constant changing face of the High Road.

The station and Spar mini-market, which is reported to have been making a loss for some time, will cease trading on 8th December.

There are no concrete plans for the site yet but staff, who will all lose their jobs, believe it will be sold to developers for residential use.

Even though the cost of petrol remains high, many independent petrol stations cannot compete with the major supermarket chains meaning an average of 600 a year close down nationally. According to the Petrol Retailers Association, there are now fewer people selling fuel to motorists than at any time since 1912.
