As more and more pressure mounts on manufacturers to adopt a more sustainable approach to business, companies are increasingly looking for ways to reduce their carbon footprint and become more environmentally responsible.

So, it will come as no surprise that we at Creative Woodwork, Chiswick's high end bespoke cabinet and fitted furniture maker, have risen to that challenge.

A little Creative thinking when it comes to reducing waste has led to the installation of a new state-of-the-art waste reduction and heating system at our Colville Road workshop.

The high-tech waste briquetting and shredding system works by shredding leftover MDF and wood products, compressing the material into briquettes (a cylindrical form). These, in turn, are fed into a dedicated heater to heat the entire workshop.

The system has allowed us to reduce our landfill waste by 99.9% to a jaw-dropping 0.6 litres per week from a previous 3,300 litres per week. In addition, the recycled waste means the workshop no longer has to rely on traditional gas methods for heating.

And it's not just the business that is benefiting from the new system. Cost savings from improved waste and heat management means that customers will also reap the benefits through reduced costs.

"Environmental issues are a key to concern to ourselves and our customers and it is fantastic that we are now able to heat the workshop by recycling our waste products in a sustainable manner, whilst also reducing costs for our customers," said Creative Woodwork's owner
and managing director, Marc Hickey.
