A 24-year-old violinist from Chiswick has performed for His Majesty the King at Buckingham Palace.

Karolina Przasnyska was taking part in a special event this Monday (14 January) organised ahead of the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. The Nazi concentration camp was in her home country of Poland and members of her family were victims of Hitler’s ‘Final Solution’ during the war.

Karolina is a graduate of Goldsmiths University, and currently collaborates with various orchestras, bands, and especially, musical theatre companies in London and across the UK. Her performance at Buckingham Palace was a part of Echo Eternal, a project commemorating Holocaust Survivors.

She performed with National Youth Musical Theatre (NYMT), an organisation supporting children in their first steps in their careers.

Echo Eternal was founded in 2018 by journalist Natasha Kaplinsky in partnership with the four Core Education Trust Birmingham secondary schools, pupils of which also performed alongside the NYMT. Echo Eternal aims to pay tribute to survivors through creative responses to their testimonies.

Karolina said, “Performing as a violinist for the King at Buckingham Palace as part of Echo Eternal was extraordinary to say the least. The group of performers from NYMT and CORE were a delight to work with and it was a performance I will proudly say I was a part of.

“It was a very meaningful project to me which not only allowed me to grow and challenge myself as a violinist, but most importantly honour my great grandparents who were sent to concentration camps during World War II.

“It was an event which served as a powerful reminder of how we can use the arts to honour the past and inspire hope for the future.”

The event was held in partnership with the Holocaust Educational Trust and the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust ahead of Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January which is also the date of the liberation of the concentration camp at Auschwitz.
