Local Catholic priest appointed as Vicar General of the diocese
July 12, 2026 The Diocese of Westminster has announced significant clergy changes that will see Canon Michael Dunne conclude more than a decade of ministry as Parish Priest of Our Lady of Grace & St Edward, Chiswick, and St Joseph’s, Grove Park. Canon Dunne, a familiar presence in the life of the parish and wider Chiswick community, has been appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Westminster, one of the most senior offices in diocesan leadership. The appointment is expected to take effect in September. Canon Dunne’s years in Chiswick have been marked by steady pastoral care, a calm and consistent presence at the heart of parish life, and his wider responsibilities in Catholic education. As Chair of the Westminster Education Commission and a leading figure in the development of Catholic academy structures, he has shaped diocesan policy far beyond West London. His new appointment reflects both his long experience and the confidence placed in him by Archbishop Richard Moth. The diocese has appointed Monsignor Roger Reader as the new Parish Priest of Our Lady of Grace & St Edward and St Joseph’s, Grove Park. Mgr Reader, currently serving at St Mary Magdalen in Willesden, brings extensive pastoral experience and a reputation for thoughtful, compassionate ministry. The parish will also welcome newly-ordained Rev Paolo Gambardella, who was ordained to the diaconate last month and is now in formation for the priesthood. Deacon Gambardella will serve both Chiswick and Grove Park, supporting liturgy, sacramental preparation, and pastoral outreach as he continues his training.
