Meeting the Dedicated Staff of Chiswick's Nursing Homes |

Report back from Andy Slaughter, MP for Hammersmith and Chiswick
April 5, 2025 Toward the end of last week, I was delighted to visit both St Mary’s Convent and Nursing Home and the Chiswick Nursing Centre in my constituency. It was lovely to meet both staff and residents and I weas very impressed by the standard of care and dedication of the staff. Visiting local services, organisations and small businesses is one of the most rewarding parts of my role as an MP as they are integral to a local community. My week in Parliament began with meetings relating to my role as Chair of the Justice Select Committee. I met with the Chair of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives – a professional body for CILEX lawyers and paralegals – to discuss priorities for the JSC and hear more about their perspective on issues in the legal profession. There was a statement from the Lord Chancellor on the sentencing council guidelines. My question to the Lord Chancellor was to ask for reassurances that the council remains independent with judicial leadership and democratic accountability. After the Israeli Government announced plans to expand their military operations in Gaza, an urgent question was granted by the Speaker in the House. I asked the Minister about steps the Government will take to make things better on the ground for both Palestinians and Israelis as things continue to get worse. There were lots of events happening in Parliament this week - I attended a drop-in event hosted by the British Beer and Pub Association where I had the pleasure of meeting local publicans, and weas invited to the 50th anniversary parliamentary reception of Solace Women’s Aid. On Thursday evening I was very pleased to attend the Grove Park Group and Strand on The Green Spring social at The Bull’s Head. It was a great event, and I thoroughly enjoyed meeting residents. This weekend I am looking forward to the launch of Gingko Corner at the flower market in Chiswick. The Commons is now in Easter recess, but I look forward to resuming my parliamentary duties when the House sits again.
Best wishes, Andy andy@andyslaughter.com
