Angelo Ogbonna given driving ban after offence on the A316
Former West Ham United and Italy international defender Angelo Ogbonna has been fined and banned from driving following a camera-detected traffic offence in Chiswick. In November 2024, when a vehicle registered in Ogbonna’s name was captured by an enforcement camera on the A316, Great Chertsey Road. The camera activation, which is believed to have been due to a red-light offence, led to a Notice of Intended Prosecution being issued. However, Ogbonna later failed to provide details of who was driving the vehicle at the time of the alleged offence. Under UK motoring law, registered keepers are legally required to identify the driver when requested by police. As a result, Ogbonna was prosecuted for failing to furnish driver information rather than for the original traffic violation itself. The case was heard at Lavender Hill Magistrates’ Court, where the footballer was handed a six-month driving ban, six penalty points, and ordered to pay a £1,054 fine under the “totting-up” rules, having reached the maximum allowable points. Ogbonna, who left West Ham in 2024 after a nine-year spell with the club, has not publicly commented on the case. The six points he received was as many as his former club has gained since last November.
