Front-garden Competition Launches in Grove Park
Prizes for creativity and wildlife-friendly planting

Residents of Grove Park are being invited to take part in a new front-garden competition running throughout spring and summer, with organisers emphasising that entries do not need to be grand, formal or professionally designed. The competition, run by the Grove Park Group, is open to anyone living in the neighbourhood and aims to celebrate the character, colour and individuality of local front gardens.
Entry is free, and gardens of all sizes — from full beds to small balconies and window boxes — are eligible, provided they are visible from the public highway so judges can assess them. The organisers say they are looking for gardens that “make a mark” or contribute positively to the street, rather than those that are perfectly manicured.
Prizes have been donated by the Chiswick Flower Market and the Chiswick Horticultural and Allotments Society (CHAS). They include:
- First prize: £100 in Chiswick Flower Market vouchers and £25 to spend at the CHAS Trading Hut
- Second prize: £75 in Flower Market vouchers and £25 CHAS vouchers
- Third prize: £50 in Flower Market vouchers and £25 CHAS vouchers
- Most wildlife-friendly garden: three bags of compost from CHAS and a bat box donated by Wild Chiswick
The competition is the first of its kind in Grove Park and is intended to encourage residents to take pride in their outdoor spaces while supporting biodiversity. Judges will be looking for planting that attracts pollinators, provides habitat or incorporates features that benefit wildlife.
Entries close on 30 June, with judging taking place over the weekend beginning 10 July. The judging panel includes Jo Gilbert of WildChiswick, Dennis Flaherty of CHAS and Stephen Nutt from the Chiswick Flower Market.
