Sunday Parking Restrictions Set to Be Introduced This Summer |

Operation of Mid-Chiswick CPZ to be seven days a week
May 25, 2025 Hounslow Council has confirmed that Sunday parking charges will be introduced in streets north of Chiswick High Road in near future. New parking restrictions will specifically target the Mid-Chiswick Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ) which includes Elliott Road, Essex Road, Chiswick Common Road and Windmill Road . The proposal stems from a review conducted in July and August 2024, which indicated increased parking pressure during evenings and Sunday markets. Although the response rate to the consultation was low—only 56 out of 524 households responded—there was notable support from residents on Elliott Road for implementing Sunday restrictions. Consequently, the council advanced the proposal to the statutory consultation stage, initially aiming for implementation by March 2025 . The Traffic Management Order (TMO) was published in March with the consultation period now over, leaving the council free to implement the new restrictions at its discretion. When we asked about the timing of the changes, we were told by the council that they would take place in the summer and that residents living within the area of the CPZ will receive letters in the coming weeks. This will be the first time that Sunday parking restrictions have been introduced in any part of the centre of Chiswick and the changes have met with a mixed response. Many residents of the affected streets have been complaining about the lack of parking space on Sundays and the Mid-Chiswick Residents’ Association set up a petition asking for the introduction of seven days a week restrictions. On the other hand, local businesses have expressed concerns about potential negative impacts on trade, particularly on Sundays, which are typically high-turnover days due to free parking. There is anxiety among local traders that the new restrictions will just lead to a displacement of the problem and the rolling introduction of Sunday restrictions across the commercial centre of Chiswick. The Mid Chiswick CPZ was introduced in March 2011 with the intention of prioritising parking for local residents whilst still retaining some short stay parking options for visitors to nearby businesses. Currently parking restrictions in the zone which is to the north of Chiswick High Road between Turnham Green Terrace and Belmont Road operate from 9am – 7pm Monday to Saturday. The CPZ includes part of Arnott Close, Belmont Terrace, Belmont Road, Bridge Street, Castle Place, Chardin Road, Chiswick Common Road, Elliott Road, Essex Road, Fishers Lane, Mills Row and Windmill Road. The two car parks on Chiswick Common Road are not part of the CPZ. The one by the rear exit of Marks and Spencer is on private land and already has parking charges for Sunday. The council owns the Bond Street car park and no plans have been announced to introduce Sunday parking charges at this location, however for most Sundays it is likely to be occupied by vehicles from the monthly markets. A resident of Elliot Road, who asked not to named said, “I’ll have mixed feelings when the new restrictions come in. Parking can be a nightmare for the whole day on Sunday. It’s not just the markets, the increased number of Padel courts means the problem extends into the evening. However, we now have to work out where visitors are going to park and it looks like a choice between expensive and far away.”
