Cavendish Primary School Celebrates Ofsted Report

Receives top ratings under new inspection framework

Cavendish Primary School is celebrating a glowing Ofsted report after inspectors found that it either exceeded or met expectations in every category, awarding the school some of the highest possible gradings under the watchdog’s new inspection system.

Following a full inspection in November 2025, Ofsted described Cavendish as “a happy, welcoming school where everyone is made to feel that they belong,” praising leaders for their clear strategic direction and for creating a safe, supportive environment for pupils and staff.

Ofsted has recently replaced its single overall judgement with a colour-coded report card assessing schools across multiple areas. Cavendish achieved “strong standard” in three categories — Early Years, inclusion, and personal development and wellbeing — meaning the school exceeded expectations and demonstrated consistently excellent practice.

The school met the “expected standard” in achievement; attendance and behaviour; curriculum and teaching; and leadership and governance. Under the new framework, “expected standard” is considered a step above the previous “good” rating, while “strong standard” sits above the former “outstanding” judgement.

Headteacher Clare Frewer said the school was “incredibly proud” of the outcome. “To have achieved these standards is testament to our team of skilled and committed staff, and to the progress we’ve made as a school and community,” she said. “We were delighted that inspectors recognised our nurturing and engaging Early Years provision, and that we support all our children to develop self-confidence and high aspirations.”

Inspectors highlighted the “caring, close-knit school community,” noting that pupils “proudly do whatever they can to help the school and each other.” They singled out the eco-committee for keeping outdoor spaces clean and tidy, and praised the school’s wide range of extra-curricular clubs, which offer pupils “rich and wide-ranging opportunities to explore their own talents and interests.”

Cavendish pupils benefit from regular visits to nearby green spaces including Chiswick House and Gardens, the River Thames, the London Wetlands Centre and Dukes Meadows. The school also runs termly trips to major London museums and attractions such as the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum and Sky Studios, alongside a busy programme of sports events including its annual colour run.

Emma Lennard, chair of the board of governors, said the report reflected the school’s strong culture and consistent performance. “The new framework looks closely at every aspect of school life, and the report captures the impact of successful leadership, excellent teaching and a nurturing environment where every child feels they belong and can thrive,” she said.

The Department for Education has also written to the school this week to congratulate staff on “excellent outcomes for disadvantaged pupils” in 2024–25, noting that Cavendish’s performance places it “among the very best nationally.”
